Long Bio: Burak Babayiğit is a Berlin-based filmmaker, photographer, and director working across film, documentary, installation, and cultural programming. Born and raised in Ankara, he has been making work since he was 13, and hasn't stopped since.

His first short film, Beyaz ve Ben, was a finalist at an interschool competition. At 17, his public service film aired across every national television channel in Turkey, making him the country's youngest cinematographer at the time. Around the same time, he founded the Ankara Cinema Community, a grassroots initiative he ran as a teenager, organising film screenings and short film productions in a city that didn't yet have much infrastructure for independent cinema. He also trained at AFSAD (Ankara Photography Artists Association) and participated in short film development workshops, building a practice from the ground up before he had any institutional backing.

He moved to Istanbul on a full scholarship to study photography at Bahçeşehir University. While studying, he worked as assistant director at production companies including Böcek Yapım, Ptot Film, and Dinamo İstanbul, and kept making his own films. Machine (2011) and Black (2013), both shot during this period, screened at festivals across Türkiye and internationally, including the Istanbul Short Film Festival, the İzmir International Short Film Festival, the EU Human Rights Short Film Festival, and Jerome Film Festival in the United States. At 19, he directed his first TV film, There! (Bi' O Kalmıştı), which aired on Fox TV Türkiye in 2016.

In 2018-2019, he stepped away and travelled, backpacking through Europe and South America. The photographs he made on the road became a body of work in their own right. Back in Istanbul, he founded Cambio Film Works for independent film production and Cambio Global as a creative agency, before relocating to Berlin. He is a member of both the Film and TV Union of Türkiye and Filmnetzwerk Berlin.

In Berlin, his practice expanded across film, education, and cultural programming. As Artistic Programming Lead at Tanz der Kulturen Berlin e.V., he has produced interdisciplinary projects at the intersection of film, dance, and community, including a dance therapy workshop for visually impaired children in İzmir and a bilingual children's theatre piece performed in Turkish and German. Through the project Neue Heimat, Neue Geschichten (New home, new stories), he has led photography workshops for young adults at Senate-affiliated second-chance schools in Berlin, working with students who are building new lives in the city and finding a language for that experience through the camera.

He is currently in post-production on Unfiltered: The Soundtrack of Our Bodies (2026), a 30-screen video installation in which the raw, unfiltered sounds of the human body, laughter, sobbing, heartbeat, teeth grinding, play in sync with the faces that produce them. Drawn from a multicultural cast, the work builds a collective portrait of humanity through the sounds we rarely admit to making.

His debut feature, Oranges Are Not Aware of Sin (Portakallar Günah Bilmez), is currently in development.
